David is a father of two boys aged nine and six. He has been their fulltime carer since his youngest was three. He has qualifications in economics, science, politics and law and this explains why he prefers growing boys, pumpkins and chooks to being a merchant banker. He spent twelve years working in State and Commonwealth bureaucracies before resigning to follow his passion as a writer. Since 2005 he has published three books and numerous articles on parenting, birth, science and history.
He is a determined believer that children respond and grow best when they are unconditionally loved, trusted, given responsibility and encouraged to question and explore their world around them '” the same as adults really!
He detests how that these days nurturing our children seems more based upon avoiding risk and litigation, than on teaching children safety skills and responsible behaviour and he worries what our pro-litigation, risk-adverse culture will do for the future of our kids.
He is an active member of Maternity Coalition and is a member of several Government committees attempting to improve the provision of maternity care in the ACT.
His current major writing interests include writing a book about women and men's experiences of postnatal depression, a book about Australian hoaxes and mysteries and a novel for teenagers.
