In my early 20s I studied Visual Arts at Southern Cross University majoring in painting and drawing. I exhibited my work both locally (Byron Bay, Bangalow, Alstonville Mullumbimby, Murwillumbah) and overseas (Glasgow, Scotland). I traveled in the UK, Guatemala, Mexico, Belize, Honduras and Costa Rica with my Scottish love. Before I became a mother I loved to ride my horse along the quiet beaches around Byron Bay, always painting and drawing the beauty that surrounded me. I became a mother 5 years ago, which was the beginning of the most wonderful creative project of my life. My first child, Trinity was born via emergency C-section after a planned homebirth. I experienced PND during the first 12 months of mothering which I found a wonderful, if uncomfortable opportunity for growth. I studied to be a doula with Michel Odent and Lilianna Lammars in London and became fascinated with gentle birthing. I became active within the natural birth community locally. I have spent a lot of time at The Natural Birth Education and Research Centre near Lismore, which is a beautiful place to gather wisdom. My second child, Jimi Jazz, was born at home, well into my 42nd week of pregnancy. This humble birth was a gift of healing for our family. After the birth I felt deeply inspired to write a children's book to celebrate. Told from the perspective of my daughter Trinity I wrote My Brother Jimi Jazz. It is a family story of homebirth which embraces co-sleeping, siblings at birth, breastfeeding, babymoon and cloth nappies. It was a wonderful process for me and I had such fun illustrating it. I published and launched My Brother Jimi Jazz in October 2006 with my dear friend and web designer Melissa Baker and have since enjoyed its warm welcome. The release of My Brother Jimi Jazz has been the catalyst for the blossoming of my creativity. Over the past 12 months I have designed the artwork for International Midwives Day for the Australian College of Midwifery. I have also made a number of works for the Trust Birth Conference to be held in Redondo Beach, California in March 2008 by Ancient Art Midwifery. My artwork has been published on the covers of Australian Midwifery News and recently Down to Birth Magazine. I am currently designing artwork and logo for the Mullumbimby Birth Unit. Articles I have written have recently been published by Down to Birth Magazine and Australian Midwifery News. I live near Mt Warning with my 2 children, delicious Scottish man, 2 dogs, 4 ducks 5 chickens and 1 crazy rooster. We grow our own vegetables, love each other a lot and follow the natural learning approach to homeschooling and life.
