Not Compatible with Life: a diary of keeping Daniel and the Trisomy Oz Prenatal Support website are labours of love. After experiencing first hand the lack of available support and understanding for Australian parents facing a difficult prenatal diagnosis, I felt compelled to increase awareness and promote the urgent need for systemic change.

Since its publication in March 2008, extracts from Daniel's book have been published in a number of natural birth and parenting newsletters and in Australian Midwifery News. It has been read, critiqued and endorsed by midwives and genetics counsellors both here and in the US.

While highlighting the widespread lack of accurate information about rare and often fatal disorders, and the absence of available support following detection and diagnosis, Daniel's book is, foremost, a celebration of our son's brief but precious life, and a testimony of the need for expectant parents to be fully informed before they are asked to make potentially life-altering decisions.

I plan to publish further works on the issues of prenatal diagnosis, natural and home birth, and grieving the loss of a child, and am willing to speak publicly about our family's experience in order to promote greater awareness and increase support and understanding for parents who face a similar situation.


Not Compatible with Life: a diary of keeping Daniel was initially distributed free of charge as a 'pass-it-on' book. In order to continue its production and distribution I am now charging $5 per book to cover the cost of printing and freight, plus postage. The book can be ordered through our website. This remains a strictly not-for-profit project.
