Hi, I am Pernille Powell and I am a certified advanced doula and a childbirth educator on the Sunshine Coast. I come from Denmark and have lived in Australia with my Australian husband since 1998. I have always been fascinated by bellies and birth, but it was the birth of my two precious children, it was the challenges, the rewards and those big feelings from birthing them that got me started on my dream of being with women in birth.

During my two pregnancies and births I experienced first hand the difference that feeling safe, respected and nurtured can make and how powerfully this can affect your start to motherhood.

I am compassionate about women and couples having the support they need, compassionate about helping couples have a positive birth experience regardless of how and where it happens.

I am very passionate about emotional preparation for birth, and in helping women to understand how their body works, be conscious of fears and worries and clear about their wishes and preferences. Bringing new life into this world is one of the most important, challenging and rewarding journeys you can take. For me being with a couple through the process to become parents is the most honourable job imaginable. It is not important to me how and where you choose to have your baby, only that you feel supported, respected and nurtured. With Birth Connection I offer women intimate care and continues support during pregnancy, birth and beyond. I work as a birth doula, a post partum doula and a childbirth educator. I also co facilitate Sunshine Coast BaBs group (a program of the Maternity Coalition) and I am part of a 'birth debriefing group' helping women and couples make peace with difficult, challenging and traumatic birth experiences. I also compliment my birthing practises with Cranio Sacral therapy and reflexology.


As a doula I meet with you 4 times altogether + the initial meeting and these meeting can be planned to suit your needs for preparation or support after your baby is born. When we meet before the birth we talk about your wishes, worries and expectations. Then I am available from the onset of your labour, or from when ever you need my support, until a few hours after the baby is born. At the meetings after baby is born we might talk about the experience, I might help out with your baby or do light house work and answer any questions you might have. I am always happy to chat on the phone or via email if you have any questions or concerns.


As well as working as a doula I also offer childbirth preparation sessions. These could be tailored particularly to your needs and in combination with my doula services. I also offer small group sessions, and refresher courses. Intimate birth debriefing session are also available.
As a postpartum doula I am happy to help you with your baby and do light housework for you.
